NOTE: These updates are based on information from the day before it was published. This will be the first of weekly global updates on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are including all of our sources within each update for you to access (if you wish) to do some additional research. As of March 25th, 2020 there are a total of 413,467 worldwide cases of COVID-19 and 18,433 deaths. In 24 hours between 10 am CET on March 24th, 2020 and 10 am CET on March 25th, 2020, there have been 40,712 additional confirmed cases and 2,202 additional deaths. Based on these numbers, the current fatality rate is an estimated 4.46%. This information has been retrieved from WHO’s Situation Report 65 on COVID-19 (linked at the bottom of the article). On March 25th, 2020, the UN launched the Global COVID-19 Humanitarian Response Plan. This is comprised of a $2 billion appeal that is aimed to help the most vulnerable countries get the medical equipment needed for treatment, laboratory equipment needed for testing, water and sanitation for places that are currently facing shortages, and “help humanitarians and supplies get to where they are needed most”. More detail can be found under “Rolling updates on COVID-19, from the WHO”, linked below. As of March 26th, 2020, there are currently 3,897 cases of COVID-19 in Canada, and within Ontario, 858. Of the total number of cases in Canada, there were 488 new cases today. The Government of Canada currently places the risk to Canadians as high. This doesn’t mean that everyone will become infected. This means that there is already a noticeable impact on the country’s (and provinces’) healthcare system. Last week, Ontario enacted a declaration of emergency. This was done to help limit the spread of COVID-19. As of now, this declaration means that many establishments are closed until March 31st, 2020. On that day, the Government of Ontario will reassess the situation and extend the closure order if needed. The affected establishments are:
